About this event
In Chinese legend, the Phoenix, “King of the Birds”, always perches on the paulownia tree. Chinese ancestors used paulownia wood to make the “gǔzhēng”, a plucked string musical instrument, generally translated as Chinese zither.
The workshop will first be introduced by a lecture to introduce everyone to the history and development of guzheng, basic technical performance and concert listening tips, so that everyone can quickly immerse themselves in the world of guzheng. .
Next, you will enjoy traditional and modern guzheng repertoire, as well as solo, ensemble and coordination of other instruments. Let the audience feel the charm of guzheng more fully.
Guzheng is one of the oldest Chinese musical instruments, dating back to the Warring States Period of the Qin Dynasty. Its development shows Han music and Chinese minority culture. But this ancient musical instrument is not difficult for beginners. After a learning course, a piece of music can be completed.
During the workshop, you will discover the structure of Guzheng, the playing position, the pentatonic scale, the development and changes of the score, the four sound zones, the rhythms and beats of Guzheng and the basic techniques（Tuō 托; Mǒ抹; Gōu 勾；Dǎ打 etc). The right hand is mainly used for plucking the strings, while the left hand is mainly used for bending the strings. This gives the Guzheng its unique sound.
